Shaun Dakin - Award Winning Social Media, Product Management & Innovation, and PR Executive. Drive the Conversation By Listening.
Winner: One of Mashable.com "Top 16 Twitter Moments"
Winner: Mashable.com Open Web Award
The Story:
Already a successful private sector Sr. Product Management and Strategy executive with such companies as FedEx, Fannie Mae, Laureate Education and the Motley Fool, Shaun took an idea from nothing with little more than passion and became the nation's only recognized expert in Political Robocalls in three months.
With a little savings, a website, a Twitter account and a phone he was honored to be asked by Senator Feinstein (D-CA) to testify at the U.S. Senate as the CEO and Founder of the National Political Do Not Contact Registry as a representative of the voter on the impact of robocalls on their lives.
During the 2008 election he put himself at the center of the debate around political robocalls using a combination of traditional public relations, search engine optimization, search engine marketing as well as social media strategies.
Shaun can do the same for your product, company, issue, or candidate.
Here are just a few of the results he achieved with very little resources and a great deal of thinking and passion: (Click here to see the media room of StopPoliticalCalls.org to see all the results)
- Front page of the USA Today, The San Fransisco Chronicle, and the San Jose Mercury News
- Multple Op-Ed's published, including in the Washington Post, here.
- Live TV interview on MSNBC. Interviews on CNN as well as local affiliates of NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox.
- Live Radio interviews on XM, NPR, and countless other local radio stations.
- Nominated as one of the top 16 great Twitter moments by Mashable
- Awarded the people's choice award for Mashable's Open Web Awards
Towards the end of the 2008 campaign Shaun was at the center of the Robocall story that became part of the national conversation. Almost every robocall that was reported in the media originated with his members (over 85,000) who reported and recorded robocalls from around the country (click here to see our robocall database and click here to see our Twitter robocall Google Map).
As a result of this Colin Powell specifically called out McCain's use of negative robocalls in his endorsement of Obama on Meet the Press.
And Saturday Night Live created a new character on Weekend Update called "robocall" (Click here for the video clip).
