Do you know how not to be an ass on Twitter? Well over 30 people clicked on this Tweet Monday to make it the Tweet of the Day (TOTD).
The Tweet that did it?:
- How To Avoid Being An Ass On Twitter. #IsCool http://ow.ly/2gp
Funny thing, however, unfortunately the URL that was shrunk went to the wrong article (Go ahead, see for yourself by clicking on the link in the Tweet).
Sorry about that. No one told me.
Here is the actual story on How To Avoid Being An Ass On Twitter.
It is a great blog post by John Haydon (@JohnHaydon) at his blog: CorporateDollar.
Comments:
First, it is interesting that over 30 people clicked on the Tweet, which obviously was not the correct link, and no one told me. What does that mean?
- Perhaps, it is that we are all so busy reading and Tweeting that no one really saw that the title of the Tweet did not sync with the actual article that the shrunk URL linked to. In this case, "Entreprenurship, What To Do When You Are Scared Sh*tless".
- Perhaps, the story that the Tweet linked to was actually pretty good, so you found yourself reading it and forgetting the original subject?
Why? Well, Twitter is now becoming the "IT" place to be and there are a lot of "newbies" joining everyday (by some count 50 to 100 thousand new accounts are created each day). So, that means that not everyone knows how to interact and how to behave on Twitter.
So, we are going to show them how.
The "we" being us.
The really really really cool people. The Twitterers that started it all. You know, six months ago.
WE WERE THERE AT THE START.
So, WE are going to school these newbies on Twitter Etiquette.
Here is my take: The newbies are going to listen to "we" and make their own rules.
They always do.
And then, there will be the Next Next Thing.
And it will be #IsCool.
That being said the post had some great things for anyone in Social Media to pay attention. My favorite?
- All these points revolve around a single social media law: Sincerely seeking to create value for another, without expecting anything in return, ends up creating an ROI beyond anything one could produce with IMeMine.
