I attended an outstanding seminar today at the
Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank in down town DC, on "free tools" and internet advocacy.
There were speakers from the CAP, Google, Idealist and, something you wouldn't expect,
AARP.I was very intrigued by AARP's new internet advocacy "spin off" -
Divided WeFail.org. This is a group that is made of the AARP,
The Business Roundtable and the
SEIU, a union.
Not likely bedfellows. And that is the point.
These three major organizations have banded together to:
Americans should have the peace of mind that comes with knowing that their futures will be financially secure. Yet, millions of Americans worry about their health and long-term financial security. For many, the American dream is eroding along with this security. We can't let this happen.
We must act and we must act now. If we don't, the next generation will be the first in American history to be less well off than their parents.
AARP, Business Roundtable, and SEIU are stepping up to this challenge with Divided We Fail so that Americans can achieve long-term financial security and get the health care they need. We intend to rally individuals, policymakers and business leaders to this cause.
This is a great example of how "red" and "blue"; business and unions, old and young, can get together and work on issues that impact ALL of us, no mater who we are or where we live.
Check them out. Join them.
I particularly like their logo. See below.
