FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
10/9/2008: The National Political Do Not Contact Registry (NPDNC) Members acted quickly this week and we have received assurances from the leadership at the Campaign for Teen Safety, a non-profit group in California, that they have agreed to stop making illegal robo calls in the state of California. This is the group that is running "Vote No on Prop 4." The NPDNC registry earlier this year shut down illegal robo calls by Dennis Kucinich.
After receiving complaints from members of the NPDNC registry I (CEO, Shaun Dakin) called the communications director at the Campaign for Teen Safety to alert her that we were receiving hundreds of complaints from our members and that robo calls are, in fact, illegal in the State of California according to CA Public Utilities Commission Code sections 2871-2876.
While she expressed surprise that robo calls are illegal, the Communications Director immediately asked to know the details and said that she would work on the issue. That was two days ago.
This morning we received several more complaints about the Campaign for Teen Safety making robo calls and I called the Director to alert her that more robo calls were being made on behalf of the CTS in California.
She immediately recognized my name and the NPDNC and said that she had been told and promised that the last of the robo calls went out 10/8/2008 and that no more robo calls would be done by the Campaign for Teen Safety.
The NPDNC and it's members are working to shut down illegal robo calls in CA. Currently there are over 15,000 CA voters that have registered at StopPoliticalCalls.org and who are recording unwanted robo calls when they receive them at StopIllegalCARobocalls.org.
